Understanding Acoustic Wave Therapy

Acoustic Wave Therapy (AWT), sometimes referred to as Radial Pressure Wave or Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology (EPAT®) is the most advanced, non-invasive technology which uses energy based on unique sets of acoustic pressure waves. AWT helps to improve the regenerative potential in areas including upper arms, stomach, gluteal region and thighs that have degenerated because of poor blood flow and weakening connective tissue.

AWT is used by many as a preventative treatment to reduce the susceptibility and/or reverse and eliminate visible signs of connective tissue disorders. It has been successfully used in aesthetic medicine in the course of several application studies to treat:

  • Cellulite
  • Pre/Post Liposuction
  • Scar Revision
  • Capsular Contracture
  • Striae
  • Stretch Marks

AWT has proven results as reflected in its high rate of patient satisfaction. In our pilot study (Sattler, Aesthetic Dermatology February 2008), 91% of patients say they would recommend AWT to other patients. The patients noticed an improvement in their skin in an average of only 2.5 sessions with no side effects reported.

AWT treatment has a multilayer effect that includes:

  • Skin tightening
  • Better skin structure and contour
  • Increased blood flow and activation of metabolism, stimulation of lipolysis and body shaping
  • Stimulation and activation of collagen formation
  • Improved circulation and drainage
  • Normalization of muscle tone

Typically, coupling gel is applied to the treatment area of interest to enhance effectiveness. Then AWT pressure waves are released via the applicator and moved over the area of interest in a circular motion.

Yes. This FDA-cleared technology was developed in Europe and is currently used around the globe. A wealth of medical experience, state-of-the-art engineering and optimal quality have been built into each AWT device. Extensive clinical studies and tests have confirmed its safety and efficacy.

Treatment sessions take approximately 20-30 minutes depending on the number of areas treated. Generally, at least 8-12 treatment sessions (2 per week) are necessary to achieve desired results.

The non-invasive AWT treatment has virtually no risks or side effects.

The safety and effectiveness of the AWT procedure has not been determined on people with the following health conditions:

  • Malignancies
  • DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis)

Your physician will provide you with information about how these and other conditions might affect the determination to perform the AWT procedures.

AWT is the first effective and long-lasting treatment modality for treating connective tissue disorders. It is invasive with virtually no risks, side effects or downtime. AWT has a success satisfaction rate of more than 80%.

Your doctor is the best person to talk to about AWT. You can start now by finding an AWT provider closest to you. Or, if you like to let your current doctor’s office know about AWT, just fill out this form and we’ll take it from there! We are happy to contact their office to let them know patients were asking about AWT.
